What is Truth?
One of the most profound questions in the Bible was asked by Pilate during his interrogation of Jesus: "What is truth?"
We know from Scripture that the most obvious and correct answer is, "Jesus Christ." John 14:6 quotes Jesus as saying, "I am the way, the truth, and the life..." This is the foundation of all truth. If God is in it, it is truth!
I believe that truth is progressive. The book of Daniel states that there were truths that would be revealed and understood in the last days. The understanding of truth is progressive, just as the understanding of knowledge is progressive.
One truth that is getting a lot of attention now is found in 2nd Corinthians 4:18. "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
This truth leads us to rely more on our faith then on our eyes! When read with the understanding that Christ is in you (Colossians 1;27) it demonstrates that God wants us to live from the inside out. That is, that the reality of our inner world (Christ in us) is more real than the outer world (that which we see, hear, smell, touch & taste.)
So when we ask, What is truth?, we are accepting that Jesus/God/Holy Spirit is Truth while we look for additional truths that lead us into a more intimate relationship with God. Truth in the Scriptures as well as truths outside of Scripture. So, "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable ... think about such things." Philippians 4:8
