Sabbath Grace

This week I read a book titled 'Everything is Grace'.  I didn't intend to, I was in Barnes and Noble looking for any recent books on the topic of the Sabbath.  I picked up a latte and went to my section of that store, religion and philosophy, but found nothing on the topic of the Sabbath, when a title jumped out at me, Everything is Grace.  "You got that right," I thought.  I immediately noticed the author, Brennan Manning, and skimmed the contents of the book finding that this was his last, he passed away in 2011.  This was his memoirs.  I wandered over to an overstuffed chair with my warm drink and for the next 3 hours that book read me.

Though the word Sabbath never appears in that book after I was done reading I realized that I had just read the mos profound truth about the Sabbath because everything is grace.  The Sabbath is grace.  This is what God would have us know about the Sabbath.  Too often i have thought about the Sabbath as God's day when he has been trying to tell me it is better understood as my day, a gift from him to me.  As this dawns in my understanding I begin to delight in the rising of the Sabbath from my heart.  He gives me rest!  Rest, he gives me rest.  Does anybody need a rest?
